[오늘의 말씀 요약]

유다 왕이 된 여호사밧이 다윗의 길로 행해 하나님을 구하고 계명을 지키며 우상을 제합니다. 이에 하나님이 그와 함께하시고 유다를 견고하게 하십니다. 왕이 된 지 3년이 지났을 때에는 백성에게 사람들을 보내 여호와의 율법책을 가르치기 시작합니다.

☞ 신실한 왕 여호사밧

1 아사의 아들 여호사밧이 대신하여 왕이 되어 스스로 강하게 하여 이스라엘을 방비하되

1 Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 유다 모든 견고한 성읍에 군대를 주둔하고 또 유다 땅과 그 아비 아사의 취한 바 에브라임 성읍들에 영문을 두었더라

2 He stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.

3 여호와께서 여호사밧과 함께하셨으니 이는 저가 그 조상 다윗의 처음 길로 행하여 바알들에게 구하지 아니하고

3 The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals

4 오직 그 부친의 하나님께 구하며 그 계명을 행하고 이스라엘의 행위를 좇지 아니하였음이라

4 but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.

5 그러므로 여호와께서 나라를 그 손에서 견고하게 하시매 유다 무리가 여호사밧에게 예물을 드렸으므로 저가 부귀와 영광이 극하였더라

5 The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.

6 저가 전심으로 여호와의 도를 행하여 산당과 아세라 목상들도 유다에서 제하였더라

6 His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.

☞ 백성에게 율법을 가르친 왕

7 저가 위에 있은 지 삼 년에 그 방백 벤하일과 오바댜와 스가랴와 느다넬과 미가야를 보내어 유다 여러 성읍에 가서 가르치게 하고

7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.

8 또 저희와 함께 레위 사람 스마야와 느다냐와 스바댜와 아사헬과 스미라못과 여호나단과 아도니야와 도비야와 도바도니야 등 레위 사람을 보내고 또 저희와 함께 제사장 엘리사마와 여호람을 보내었더니

8 With them were certain Levites--Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah--and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

9 저희가 여호와의 율법책을 가지고 유다에서 가르치되 그 모든 성읍으로 순행하며 인민을 가르쳤더라

9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.

3000억짜리 신청사 논란 성남시..

경기도 성남시가 총 공사비 3222억 원을 투입, 지하 2층, 지상 9층 규모로 신청사 건물을 완공해 오늘(18일) 개청식을 했습니다. 지난 2005년 용인시가 1974억 원의 공사비를 들여 신청사를 지을 때 '아방궁'이라는 비난을 받았는데, 용인시보다 무려 1248억 원이나 더 많은 비용을 들여 초호화판 청사를 지은 것입니다.

성남시 신청사는 중원구 여수동 일대, 그러니까 성남 구시가지와 분당 신도시 중간 지점에 있습니다. 오늘 개청식은 안 그래도 호화청사 건립으로 비판을 받고 있는 마당에 몸값이 비싼 인기가수 초청, 불꽃놀이 등으로 3억 원에 가까운 비용을 써가며 할 예정이라 또 다른 논란을 빚고 있습니다.

개청식을 이틀 앞둔 지난 16일 성남 신청사를 방문해보니 시청 건물이라기 보다 무슨 쇼핑몰 건물 같은 인상이 먼저 듭니다. 청사로 들어서니 주차장 정비 등 개청식 준비가 한창입니다. 청사 안으로 들어서 보니 건물 바닥과 벽면이 화강암과 대리석으로 치장돼 있어 특급 호텔 같은 분위기입니다. 이곳이 100만 성남시민들을 위해 1천여 명이 일하는 시청사라는 느낌은 전혀 들지 않습니다. 그러면 성남시청사가 왜 '호화 청사', '성남 궁전'이라는 말을 듣는지 한 번 따져보겠습니다

성남시

성남시 신청사의 규모부터 알아보죠. 건물은 지하 2층, 지상 9층 규모입니다. 대지면적만 해도 7만445m²(2만2300평)이며, 연 면적은 7만4309m²입니다. 성남시 기관지 <비전 성남>(2008.11.25일자)에 따르면 향후 신청사에 근무할 인원을 1330명으로 잡고 있는데, 이를 1인당 근무면적으로 따져보면 33.99m²(약 10평)가 되죠. 소형아파트 한 채 크기의 면적에 성남시청 공무원 1명이 일하게 되는 것입니다. 지난 2000년 이후 지어진 지자체 시청사의 1인당 근무 평균 면적 21.2m²를 훨씬 뛰어넘는 면적입니다. 총 공사비 3222억 원은 서민 임대아파트를 약 3천 채 이상 지을 수 있는 돈입니다.

그럼 성남시 신청사와 서울시 신청사를 비교해보겠습니다. 서울시 신청사 건립비는 2281억 원입니다. 성남시보다 941억 원이 적습니다. 인구 100만의 성남시가 인구 1천만이 넘는 서울시보다 청사가 더 크다는 것은 누가 봐도 호화청사 비난을 피할 수 없습니다. 성남시는 3222억 원 중에는 토지비가 포함돼 있기 때문에 건축비가 많게 보일 뿐이며, 토지비를 뺀 순수 건축비는1456억 원이라고 합니다. 토지비가 포함되지 않은 서울시청 공사비 2281억 원에 비해 절반 수준에 불과하다며 절대 호화청사가 아니라고 합니다. 성남 인구를 100만으로 잡아도 인구가 10배나 많은 서울시청보다 건축비가 적게 들었으니 문제될 것이 없다는 성남시의 해명이 더 기가 막히네요.

성남시장의 집무실은 본관 9층에 위치하고 40평 규모입니다. 웬만한 중대형 아파트 한 채 넓이에 전용 엘리베이터까지 갖춰놓았다는 의혹까지 받고 있어 펜트하우스와 다를 바 없다는 비판을 받고 있는데요. 지하 2층에서 시장실까지 바로 올라갈 수 있는 비상엘리베이터는 전자장비가 설치돼 아이디 카드나 비밀번호를 모르면 출입할 수 없기 때문에 시민들이 이용과는 거리가 먼 엘리베이터입니다.

성남시

이렇게 초호화판 시청사를 건립해놓고 오늘 오후부터 성남시는 신청사 중앙현관 앞에서 호화 개청식을 엽니다. 인기가수 초청 공연, 불꽃놀이 등으로 8천여 명의 시민들이 참가한다고 하는데 신종플루 때문에 대중집회를 자제하는 마당에 많은 사람들을 모이게 해 호화판 잔치를 여는 것 또한 성남 시민의 한 사람으로 못마땅하네요.

아직 성남은 분당 신시가지에 비해 구시가지는 달동네라 불릴 정도로 서민들이 많이 살고 있는 곳이지요. 더구나 구시가지는 재건축이 한창이라 집 없는 서민들은 시 외곽으로 쫓겨나고 있는 마당에 시민들이 3천억 원이 넘는 시청사를 어떻게 바라볼까요?

물론 청사가 넓고 깨끗한 것이 주민으로서 나쁠 것이 없습니다. 그러나 아직 지자체 재정자립도로 본다면 지방교부세, 재정보전금 등 명목으로 아직도 중앙정부에 의지해야 하는 처지를 감안해보면 초호화판 청사는 세금낭비라는 비난을 면키 어렵습니다. 더구나 성남시는 현재 하남시, 광주시와 시군 통합을 추진하고 있는데, 만약 시군 통합이 되면 하남과 광주시에서 통합시청사를 지금의 성남시청사로 사용하도록 하겠는지요? 통합 시청사를 어디로 할 것인지도 매우 민감한 사안입니다.

성남시

성남시민의 한 사람으로서 주민세, 자동차세, 재산세 등을 꼬박꼬박 내기 때문에 내가 낸 세금이 주민들의 복지를 위해 잘 쓰여지길 바라는 것은 필자뿐 아니라 모든 시민들의 바람일 것입니다. 성남신청사를 건립할 때 시민들에게 시청사들 건립한다고 홍보를 했는지 몰라도 주민들 의견은 제대로 수렴하지 않은 듯 합니다. 물론 성남시민을 대표해서 시의원들이 결정한 일이겠지만 충분하게 주민들의 의견을 반영해서 추진했더라면 3천억 원이 넘는 돈을 쏟아붓지는 않았을 것입니다. 모든 시민들이 초호화 시청사 건립에 반대하고 부정적인 의견을 보인지라 혹시 서둘러 시행한 것이 아닌지요?

중앙정부는 작은 정부를 지향한다고 하는데, 성남시는 이와 반대로 가는 것은 아닌지요? 현재 성남시 공무원수는 800여 명인데, 향후 1300여 명까지 늘릴 계획이라 시청사를 조금 크게 짓는 것이라는 성남시 입장은 공허한 메아리에 불과합니다. 시청사는 공무원들이 업무를 효율적으로 수행할 수 있는 공간이면 되는데, 너무 넓어서 청소용역비도 만만치 않을 것 같네요. 오늘 개청식을 연다고 하는데, 참가주민 중 신청사 건립비로 3천억 원이 넘게 투입됐다는 사실을 아는 주민이 얼마나 될지 궁금하네요.

이스라엘 왕 바아사가 유다를 공격하자 아사가 아람 왕을 의지해 바아사의 군대를 몰아냅니다. 아사가 하나님을 의지하지 않은 것을 선견자 하나니가 책망합니다. 화가 난 아사가 하나니를 옥에 가둡니다. 아사는 발에 심한 병이 들어 세상을 떠납니다.

☞ 아람을 의지한 아사 왕

1 아사 왕 삼십륙 년에 이스라엘 왕 바아사가 유다를 치러 올라와서 라마를 건축하여 사람을 유다 왕 아사에게 왕래하지 못하게 하려 한지라 2 아사가 여호와의 전 곳간과 왕궁 곳간의 은금을 취하여 다메섹에 거한 아람 왕 벤하닷에게 보내며 가로되 3 내 부친과 당신의 부친 사이에와 같이 나와 당신 사이에 약조하자 내가 당신에게 은금을 보내노니 와서 이스라엘 왕 바아사와 세운 약조를 깨뜨려서 저로 나를 떠나게 하라 하매

1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah. 2 Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the LORD's temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 3 "Let there be a treaty between me and you," he said, "as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me."

4 벤하닷이 아사 왕의 말을 듣고 그 군대 장관들을 보내어 이스라엘 두어 성읍을 치되 이욘과 단과 아벨마임과 납달리의 모든 국고성을 쳤더니 5 바아사가 듣고 라마 건축하는 일을 파하여 그 공역을 그친지라 6 아사 왕이 온 유다 무리를 거느리고 바아사가 라마를 건축하던 돌과 재목을 수운하여다가 게바와 미스바를 건축하였더라

4 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim and all the store cities of Naphtali. 5 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and abandoned his work. 6 Then King Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using. With them he built up Geba and Mizpah.

7 때에 선견자 하나니가 유다 왕 아사에게 나아와서 이르되 왕이 아람 왕을 의지하고 왕의 하나님 여호와를 의지하지 아니한 고로 아람 왕의 군대가 왕의 손에서 벗어났나이다 8 구스 사람과 룹 사람의 군대가 크지 아니하며 말과 병거가 심히 많지 아니하더이까 그러나 왕이 여호와를 의지한 고로 여호와께서 왕의 손에 붙이셨나이다 9 여호와의 눈은 온 땅을 두루 감찰하사 전심으로 자기에게 향하는 자를 위하여 능력을 베푸시나니 이 일은 왕이 망령되이 행하였은즉 이후부터는 왕에게 전쟁이 있으리이다 하매 10 아사가 노하여 선견자를 옥에 가두었으니 이는 그 말에 크게 노하였음이며 그때에 아사가 또 몇 백성을 학대하였더라

7 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: "Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. 8 Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen ? Yet when you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. 9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war." 10 Asa was angry with the seer because of this; he was so enraged that he put him in prison. At the same time Asa brutally oppressed some of the people.

☞ 아사의 변심과 죽음

11 아사의 시종 행적은 유다와 이스라엘 열왕기에 기록되니라

11 The events of Asa's reign, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

12 아사가 왕이 된 지 삼십구 년에 그 발이 병들어 심히 중하나 병이 있을 때에 저가 여호와께 구하지 아니하고 의원들에게 구하였더라 13 아사가 위에 있은 지 사십일 년에 죽어 그 열조와 함께 자매 14 다윗 성에 자기를 위하여 파 두었던 묘실에 무리가 장사하되 그 시체를 법대로 만든 각양 향 재료를 가득히 채운 상에 두고 또 위하여 많이 분향하였더라

12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but onl　y from the physicians. 13 Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his fathers. 14 They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bier covered with spices and various blended perfumes, and they made a huge fire in his honor.

하나님이 기뻐하시는 개혁 (역대하 15:8 - 15:19)

[오늘의 말씀 요약

아사가 가증한 물건을 온 땅에서 제하고 여호와의 단을 중수합니다. 그리고 백성과 함께 여호와께 제사를 드린 후에 온 마음으로 하나님을 찾기로 언약합니다. 비록 아사가 산당을 완전히 없애지 못했지만 그의 마음은 일평생 하나님께 온전했습니다.

☞ 참된 영적 부흥

8 아사가 이 말 곧 선지자 오뎃의 예언을 듣고 마음을 강하게 하여 가증한 물건을 유다와 베냐민 온 땅에서 제하고 또 에브라임 산지에서 빼앗은 성읍들에서 제하고 또 여호와의 낭실 앞 여호와의 단을 중수하고

8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD's temple.

9 또 유다와 베냐민의 무리를 모으고 에브라임과 므낫세와 시므온 가운데서 나와서 저희 중에 우거하는 자를 모았으니 이는 이스라엘 사람들이 아사의 하나님 여호와께서 그와 함께하심을 보고 아사에게로 돌아오는 자가 많았음이더라

9 Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.

10 아사 왕 십오년 삼월에 저희가 예루살렘에 모이고 11 그날에 노략하여 온 물건 중에서 소 칠백과 양 칠천으로 여호와께 제사를 드리고

10 They assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign. 11 At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back.

12 또 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 열조의 하나님 여호와를 찾기로 언약하고

12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.

13 무릇 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찾지 아니하는 자는 대소 남녀를 무론하고 죽이는 것이 마땅하다 하고

13 All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

14 무리가 큰소리로 부르며 피리와 나팔을 불어 여호와께 맹세하매

14 They took an oath to the LORD with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.

15 온 유다가 이 맹세를 기뻐한지라 무리가 마음을 다하여 맹세하고 뜻을 다하여 여호와를 찾았으므로 여호와께서도 저희의 만난 바가 되시고 그 사방에 평안을 주셨더라

15 All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.

☞ 아사 왕의 신실한 삶

16 아사 왕의 모친 마아가가 아세라의 가증한 목상을 만들었으므로 아사가 그 태후의 위를 폐하고 그 우상을 찍고 빻아 기드론 시냇가에서 불살랐으니

16 King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

17 산당은 이스라엘 중에서 제하지 아니하였으나 아사의 마음이 일평생 온전하였더라

17 Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.

18 저가 또 그 부친의 구별한 물건과 자기의 구별한 물건 곧 은과 금과 기명들을 하나님의 전에 드렸더니

18 He brought into the temple of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.

19 이때부터 아사 왕 삼십오년까지 다시는 전쟁이 없으니라

19 There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.

하나님과 함께하는 복 (역대하 15:1 - 15:7)

[오늘의 말씀 요약]

하나님의 신이 아사랴에게 임하시자, 그가 아사 왕과 유다 백성을 향해 하나님의 말씀을 선포합니다. 하나님과 함께하고 그분을 찾고 구하면 하나님도 그들과 함께하시고 그들을 만나 주실 것입니다. 하나님을 찾고 구하는 것은 계속되어야 합니다.

☞ 여호와와 함께하라

1 하나님의 신이 오뎃의 아들 아사랴에게 임하시매

1 The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.

2 저가 나가서 아사를 맞아 이르되 아사와 및 유다와 베냐민의 무리들아 내 말을 들으라 너희가 여호와와 함께하면 여호와께서 너희와 함께하실찌라 너희가 만일 저를 찾으면 저가 너희의 만난 바 되시려니와 너희가 만일 저를 버리면 저도 너희를 버리시리라

2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

☞ 하나님을 계속 찾고 구하라

3 이스라엘에는 참 신이 없고 가르치는 제사장도 없고 율법도 없은 지가 이제 오래였으나

3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law.

4 그 환난 때에 이스라엘 하나님 여호와께 돌아가서 찾으매 저가 그들의 만난 바가 되셨나니

4 But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them.

5 그때에 열국에 거한 모든 백성이 크게 요란하여 사람의 출입이 평안치 못하며

5 In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil.

6 이 나라가 저 나라와 서로 치고 이 성읍이 저 성읍과 또한 그러하여 피차 상한 바 되었나니 이는 하나님이 모든 고난으로 요란케 하셨음이니라

6 One　 nation was being crushed by another and one　 city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress.

7 그런즉 너희는 강하게 하라 손이 약하지 않게 하라 너희 행위에는 상급이 있음이니라

7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."

[오늘의 말씀 요약]

아비야의 뒤를 이어 유다 왕이 된 아사는 처음부터 하나님 보시기에 선과 정의를 행합니다. 그래서 하나님이 아사에게 평안을 주십니다. 구스 군대가 유다를 공격하지만, 아사의 부르짖음에 하나님이 응답하셔서 구스를 패하게 하십니다.

☞ 여호와께서 주신 평안

1 아비야가 그 열조와 함께 자매 다윗 성에 장사되고 그 아들 아사가 대신하여 왕이 되니 그 시대에 그 땅이 십 년을 평안하니라 2 아사가 그 하나님 여호와 보시기에 선과 정의를 행하여 3 이방 제단과 산당을 없이하고 주상을 훼파하며 아세라 상을 찍고 4 유다 사람을 명하여 그 열조의 하나님 여호와를 구하게 하며 그 율법과 명령을 행하게 하고 5 또 유다 모든 성읍에서 산당과 태양상을 없이하매 나라가 그 앞에서 평안함을 얻으니라

1 And Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years. 2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. 4 He commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his laws and commands. 5 He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him.

6 여호와께서 아사에게 평안을 주셨으므로 그 땅이 평안하여 여러 해 싸움이 없은지라 저가 견고한 성읍들을 유다에 건축하니라 7 아사가 일찌기 유다 사람에게 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와를 찾았으므로 이 땅이 아직 우리 앞에 있나니 우리가 이 성읍들을 건축하고 그 주위에 성곽과 망대와 문과 빗장을 만들자 우리가 주를 찾았으므로 주께서 우리에게 사방의 평안을 주셨느니라 하고 이에 저희가 성읍을 형통하게 건축하였더라

6 He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one　 was at war with him during those years, for the LORD gave him rest. 7 "Let us build up these towns," he said to Judah, "and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side." So they built and prospered.

☞ 여호와께서 주신 승리

8 아사의 군대는 유다 중에서 큰 방패와 창을 잡는 자가 삼십만이요 베냐민 중에서 작은 방패를 잡으며 활을 당기는 자가 이십팔만이라 다 큰 용사더라 9 구스 사람 세라가 저희를 치려 하여 군사 백만과 병거 삼백 승을 거느리고 마레사에 이르매 10 아사가 마주 나아가서 마레사의 스바다 골짜기에 진치고 11 그 하나님 여호와께 부르짖어 가로되 여호와여 강한 자와 약한 자 사이에는 주밖에 도와줄 이가 없사오니 우리 하나님 여호와여 우리를 도우소서 우리가 주를 의지하오며 주의 이름을 의탁하옵고 이 많은 무리를 치러 왔나이다 여호와여 주는 우리 하나님이시오니 원컨대 사람으로 주를 이기지 못하게 하옵소서 하였더니

8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men. 9 Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with a vast army and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10 Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. 11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one　 like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you."

12 여호와께서 구스 사람을 아사와 유다 사람 앞에서 쳐서 패하게 하시니 구스 사람이 도망하는지라 13 아사와 그 좇는 자가 구스 사람을 쫓아 그랄까지 이르매 이에 구스 사람이 엎드러지고 살아 남은 자가 없었으니 이는 여호와 앞에서와 그 군대 앞에서 패망하였음이라 노략한 물건이 심히 많았더라 14 여호와께서 그랄 사면 모든 성읍 백성을 두렵게 하시니 무리가 그 모든 성읍을 치고 그 가운데 있는 많은 물건을 노략하고 15 또 짐승 지키는 천막을 치고 양과 약대를 많이 이끌고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라

12 The LORD struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, 13 and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the LORD and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder. 14 They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror of the LORD had fallen upon them. They plundered all these villages, since there was much booty there. 15 They also attacked the camps of the herdsmen and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.

여로보암의 군대가 유다 군대의 앞뒤를 포위합니다. 그러나 하나님이 이스라엘을 패하게 하시고 유다에게 승리를 주십니다. 이 전쟁으로 아비야가 벧엘과 여사나와 에브론을 빼앗습니다. 아비야는 점점 강성해졌고, 여로보암은 징계를 받아 죽습니다.

☞ 여호와께서 주신 승리

13 여로보암이 유다의 뒤를 둘러 복병하였으므로 그 앞에는 이스라엘 사람이 있고 그 뒤에는 복병이 있는지라

13 Now Jeroboam had sent troops around to the rear, so that while he was in front of Judah the ambush was behind them.

14 유다 사람이 돌이켜보고 자기 앞뒤의 적병을 인하여 여호와께 부르짖고 제사장은 나팔을 부니라

14 Judah turned and saw that they were being attacked at both front and rear. Then they cried out to the LORD. The priests blew their trumpets

15 유다 사람이 소리지르매 유다 사람의 소리지를 때에 하나님이 여로보암과 온 이스라엘을 아비야와 유다 앞에서 쳐서 패하게 하시니

15 and the men of Judah raised the battle cry. At the sound of their battle cry, God routed Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 이스라엘 자손이 유다 앞에서 도망하는지라 하나님이 그 손에 붙이신 고로

16 The Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands.

17 아비야와 그 백성이 크게 도륙하니 이스라엘의 택한 병정이 죽임을 입고 엎드러진 자가 오십만이었더라

17 Abijah and his men inflicted heavy losses on them, so that there were five hundred thousand casualties among Israel's able men.

☞ 아비야의 강성함과 여로보암의 몰락

18 그때에 이스라엘 자손이 항복하고 유다 자손이 이기었으니 이는 저희가 그 열조의 하나님 여호와를 의지하였음이라

18 The men of Israel were subdued on that occasion, and the men of Judah were victorious because they relied on the LORD, the God of their fathers.

19 아비야가 여로보암을 쫓아가서 그 성읍들을 빼앗았으니 곧 벧엘과 그 동네와 여사나와 그 동네와 에브론과 그 동네라

19 Abijah pursued Jeroboam and took from him the towns of Bethel, Jeshanah and Ephron, with their surrounding villages.

20 아비야 때에 여로보암이 다시 강성하지 못하고 여호와의 치심을 입어 죽었고

20 Jeroboam did not regain power during the time of Abijah. And the LORD struck him down and he died.

21 아비야는 점점 강성하며 아내 열넷을 취하여 아들 스물둘과 딸 열여섯을 낳았더라

21 But Abijah grew in strength. He married fourteen wives and had twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

유다 왕 아비야가 군사를 모아 여로보암의 군사와 전쟁을 하려 합니다. 그는 전쟁을 시작하기 전에 하나님이 다윗의 후손에게 이스라엘을 주셨음과 여로보암의 반역에 대해 이야기합니다. 그리고 유다를 대적하면 형통치 못할 것이라고 선포합니다.

☞ 소금 언약

1 여로보암 왕 제십팔년에 아비야가 유다 왕이 되고 2 예루살렘에서 삼 년을 치리하니라 그 모친의 이름은 미가야라 기브아 사람 우리엘의 딸이더라 아비야가 여로보암으로 더불어 싸울쌔 3 아비야는 택한 바 싸움에 용맹한 군사 사십만으로 싸움을 예비하였고 여로보암은 택한 바 큰 용사 팔십만으로 대진한지라

1 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam, Abijah became king of Judah, 2 and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother's name was Maacah, a daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. 3 Abijah went into battle with a force of four hundred thousand able fighting men, and Jeroboam drew up a battle line against him with eight hundred thousand able troops.

4 아비야가 에브라임 산 중 스마라임 산 위에 서서 가로되 여로보암과 이스라엘 무리들아 다 들으라 5 이스라엘 하나님 여호와께서 소금 언약으로 이스라엘 나라를 영원히 다윗과 그 자손에게 주신 것을 너희가 알 것이 아니냐 6 다윗의 아들 솔로몬의 신복 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 일어나 그 주를 배반하고 7 난봉과 비류가 모여 좇으므로 스스로 강하게 하여 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암을 대적하나 그때에 르호보암이 어리고 마음이 연약하여 능히 막지 못하였었느니라

4 Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim, in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, "Jeroboam and all Israel, listen to me! 5 Don't you know that the LORD, the God of Israel, has given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever by a covenant of salt? 6 Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat, an official of Solomon son of David, rebelled against his master. 7 Some worthless scoundrels gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young and indecisive and not strong enough to resist them.

☞ 아비야의 선포

8 이제 너희가 또 다윗 자손의 손으로 다스리는 여호와의 나라를 대적하려 하는도다 너희는 큰 무리요 또 여로보암이 너희를 위하여 신으로 만든 금송아지가 너희와 함께 있도다

8 "And now you plan to resist the kingdom of the LORD, which is in the hands of David's descendants. You are indeed a vast army and have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made to be your gods.

9 너희가 아론 자손 된 여호와의 제사장과 레위 사람을 쫓아내고 이방 백성의 풍속을 좇아 제사장을 삼지 아니하였느냐 무론 누구든지 수송아지 하나와 수양 일곱을 끌고 와서 장립을 받고자 하는 자마다 허무한 신의 제사장이 될 수 있도다

9 But didn't you drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make priests of your own as the peoples of other lands do? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may become a priest of what are not gods.

10 우리에게는 여호와께서 우리 하나님이 되시니 그를 우리가 배반치 아니하였고 여호와를 섬기는 제사장들이 있으니 아론의 자손이요 또 레위 사람이 수종을 들어

10 "As for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him. The priests who serve the LORD are sons of Aaron, and the Levites assist them.

11 조석으로 여호와 앞에 번제를 드리며 분향하며 또 깨끗한 상에 진설병을 놓고 또 금등대가 있어 그 등에 저녁마다 불을 켜나니 우리는 우리 하나님 여호와의 계명을 지키나 너희는 그를 배반하였느니라

11 Every morning and evening they present burnt offerings and fragrant incense to the LORD. They set out the bread on the ceremonially clean table and light the lamps on the gold lampstand every evening. We are observing the requirements of the LORD our God. But you have forsaken him.

12 하나님이 우리와 함께하사 우리의 머리가 되시고 그 제사장들도 우리와 함께하여 경고의 나팔을 불어 너희를 공격하느니라 이스라엘 자손들아 너희 열조의 하나님 여호와와 싸우지 말라 너희가 형통치 못하리라

12 God is with us; he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the battle cry against you. Men of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed."

소금 언약(5절) 부패나 침식이 없는 영원불변한 언약이라는 뜻으로, ‘다윗 언약’을 가리킴

난봉(7절) 허탄하고 변덕스러운 사람

비류(7절) 사람 같지 않은 사람, 불량자

☞ 시삭의 예루살렘 침공

9 애굽 왕 시삭이 올라와서 예루살렘을 치고 여호와의 전 보물과 왕궁의 보물을 몰수히 빼앗고 솔로몬의 만든 금방패도 빼앗은지라

9 When Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, he carried off the treasures of the temple of the LORD and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made.

10 르호보암 왕이 그 대신에 놋으로 방패를 만들어 궁문을 지키는 시위대 장관들의 손에 맡기매

10 So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.

11 왕이 여호와의 전에 들어갈 때마다 시위하는 자가 그 방패를 들고 갔다가 시위소로 도로 가져갔더라

11 Whenever the king went to the LORD's temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.

12 르호보암이 스스로 겸비하였고 유다에 선한 일도 있으므로 여호와께서 노를 돌이키사 다 멸하지 아니하셨더라

12 Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.

☞ 르호보암의 삶

13 르호보암 왕이 예루살렘에서 스스로 강하게 하여 치리하니라 르호보암이 위에 나아갈 때에 나이 사십일 세라 예루살렘 곧 여호와께서 이스라엘 모든 지파 중에서 택하여 그 이름을 두신 성에서 십칠 년을 치리하니라 르호보암의 모친의 이름은 나아마라 암몬 여인이더라

13 King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother's name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.

14 르호보암이 마음을 오로지하여 여호와를 구하지 아니함으로 악을 행하였더라

14 He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.

15 르호보암의 시종 행적은 선지자 스마야와 선견자 잇도의 족보책에 기록되지 아니하였느냐 르호보암과 여로보암 사이에 항상 전쟁이 있으니라

15 As for the events of Rehoboam's reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer that deal with genealogies? There was continual warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.

16 르호보암이 그 열조와 함께 자매 다윗 성에 장사되고 그 아들 아비야가 대신하여 왕이 되니라

16 Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And Abijah his son succeeded him as king.

[오늘의 말씀 요약]

르호보암과 유다 백성이 여호와의 율법을 버리고 범죄합니다. 하나님이 애굽 왕 시삭을 보내 유다를 징계하십니다. 스마야 선지자가 하나님의 말씀을 선포하자 르호보암과 방백들이 회개합니다. 이에 하나님이 유다를 향한 징계를 거두십니다.

☞ 애굽 왕 시삭의 침략

1 르호보암이 나라가 견고하고 세력이 강하매 여호와의 율법을 버리니 온 이스라엘이 본받은지라

1 After Rehoboam's position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the LORD.

2 저희가 여호와께 범죄하였으므로 르호보암 왕 오년에 애굽 왕 시삭이 예루살렘을 치러 올라오니

2 Because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam.

3 저에게 병거가 일천이백 승이요 마병이 육만이며 애굽에서 좇아 나온 무리 곧 과 숩과 구스 사람이 불가승수라

3 With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen and the innumerable troops of Libyans, Sukkites and Cushites that came with him from Egypt,

4 시삭이 유다의 견고한 성읍을 취하고 예루살렘에 이르니

4 he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.

☞ 르호보암의 겸비함

5 때에 유다 방백들이 시삭을 인하여 예루살렘에 모였는지라 선지자 스마야가 르호보암과 방백들에게 나아와 가로되 여호와의 말씀이 너희가 나를 버렸으므로 나도 너희를 버려 시삭의 손에 붙였노라 하셨다 한지라

5 Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah who had assembled in Jerusalem for fear of Shishak, and he said to them, "This is what the LORD says, 'You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.'

6 이에 이스라엘 방백들과 왕이 스스로 겸비하여 가로되 여호와는 의로우시다 하매

6 The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, "The LORD is just."

7 여호와께서 저희의 스스로 겸비함을 보신지라 여호와의 말씀이 스마야에게 임하여 가라사대 저희가 스스로 겸비하였으니 내가 멸하지 아니하고 대강 구원하여 나의 노를 시삭의 손으로 예루살렘에 쏟지 아니하리라

7 When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.

8 그러나 저희가 시삭의 종이 되어 나를 섬기는 것과 열국을 섬기는 것이 어떠한지 알게 되리라 하셨더라

8 They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands."

불가승수(3절) 수가 많아서 셀 수 없다는 뜻으로, 애굽의 군사력에 대한 과장된 표현

겸비하여(6절) 히브리어로 ‘무릎을 꿇다’라는 뜻이며, 유다의 회개를 뜻함
